ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Mongolia and City Tour

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After settling in, we will begin a city tour, visiting Sukhbaatar Square (formerly Central Square) and the National Museum of Mongolia. We'll conclude the day with dinner at a traditional Mongolian restaurant.

Accommodation: New West Hotel in Ulaanbaatar or similar 3* Hotels (upgradable to 4/5* hotels)

Day 2: Flight to Western Mongolia

We will take a flight to Ulgii, the central town of Bayan-Ulgii province. This region is home to a predominantly Kazakh population, who have their own distinct language and rich cultural heritage. The Kazakh people are renowned for their tradition of eagle hunting. After checking into our hotel, we will begin sightseeing, including a visit to the local museum to learn more about Bayan-Ulgii province and the Kazakh culture.

Day 3: Entry to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park

We will drive to the entrance of Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, the closest point to the Altai peaks accessible by vehicle, at an altitude of 2500-3000 meters. We will visit a local family to experience their way of life and arrange horses for our upcoming three-day trek to the peaks. After preparing our equipment, we will set up a tent camp for the night, ready for the adventure ahead.

Day 4: Trek to Altai Tavan Bogd Peaks

We will leave our vehicle and load our luggage onto the horses for our trek towards the majestic Altai Tavan Bogd peaks (4100-4374m). The landscape offers fantastic photo opportunities, with horse or camel caravans traversing the rocky and snow-capped mountains of Western Mongolia. We will arrive at the foot of the high peaks and set up our tent camp at the Base Camp of the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains.

Day 5: Tsagaan Gol (White River)

We will trek back to the park entrance, returning the horses to the local family. From there, we will drive towards Tsagaan Gol, or White River. This river's striking color comes from glacial milk – the fine sediment created by glacial erosion. We will set up camp and stay overnight near the scenic Tsagaan Gol, surrounded by the beautiful glacial landscape.

Day 6: Journey to Khoton and Khurgan Lakes

We will embark on a scenic journey to the pristine Khoton and Khurgan lakes, nestled within the Altai Mountains. We will begin trekking through the rugged wilderness, immersed in the stunning scenery. A support vehicle will follow, ensuring the tranquility of the trail. We will reach a beautiful campsite en route to the lakes, where we will set up our tents and spend the night under the stars, surrounded by the beauty of the mountains.

Day 7: Baga Turgen Waterfall and Cultural Encounter with Kazakh Eagle Hunters

After a peaceful day at Khoton and Khurgan Lakes, we will embark on a scenic hike to Baga Turgen Waterfall. The trek is approximately 12-15 km, with gentle elevations rising from the lake's 2,073 meters to about 2,300 meters near the falls. This hike takes us through lush alpine meadows, pristine pine forests, and striking mountain vistas, offering frequent views of the surrounding Altai peaks. The waterfall itself cascades down 36 meters in two dramatic tiers, creating a tranquil, mist-filled basin. It’s an immersive experience, combining the beauty of Mongolia’s untouched wilderness with moments of solitude and awe at this hidden natural gem.

After the hike, we will drive to a Kazakh family to meet eagle hunters and experience their unique nomadic culture. Here, you will witness the ancient art of eagle falconry, a unique tradition in western Mongolia. We will enjoy the hospitality of the eagle hunters, tasting Kazakh cuisine and learning about their way of life.

Day 8: Return to Bayan-Ulgii City

Today, we will have a long drive back to Ulgii city, arriving in the afternoon. We will check into our hotel and have time to rest after the journey.

Day 9: Flight back to Ulaanbaatar

We will fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, we will visit Chinggis Khan Complex before heading back to the city. Spend the day shopping at the Gobi cashmere factory store and the biggest local department store. We will conclude the day with a special farewell dinner.

Day 10: Airport Transfer

We will transfer you to the airport for your departure.
